I have the phone for almost an year, and I can tell that is very good phone. I will not describe all kind of tech specs, you can find a lot of it on many sites.
The Desire is like a poetry, not all people will see the beautiful part. First of all is very responsive. Since android 2.2 all clicks, app launches are very smooth and quick, no lag at all.
Round corners make it feel very nice in your palm. Solid case and screen will also make the phone very strong to all kind of "accidents". Some of you will not be agree to the back cover, but that soft, rubber material has a very big advantage: It scratches easy, finger prints are visible since the first touches, but in the end you can remove all the scratches by doing circular movements with your palm. The back cover will be as new.
The phone is opened instantly. Same for call history, people and other important applications (message). Mail is very simple to use, and never hangs. In fact, I remember only one time when the system hung, but in 10 seconds came back to life. The previous windows mobile phone which I had was a disaster. Was a normal thing to reset the phone after 1-2 days of use.
Desire has drawbacks too, as every phone on this planet. You will discover them in time, but for me had no impact.
In the end, the AMOLED technology is superb. For the first time in history, the black is black :)
